(More customer reviews)This controller is fine, if low cost is everything to you, and you have a small solar setup.The box can be opened and there is a standard printed circuit board, which means discrete components can be easily modified or repaired.However, the vent holes would allow water to enter, so this is not water-resistant.The status indicators are informative as to the charging status of your battery.
However, a big negative for me is the LVD or "Low Voltage Disconnect" set at 10.5 volts.No lead-acid battery should ever be abused to that low level.To compare, the Morningstar SS-10L has a more reasonable LVD of 12.1 (it actually should be more like 12.4... but let's not quibble), but that excellent controller is much more expensive, and a sealed, more water resistant unit.
So, if you want to tinker a bit, or if you always have good sunshine where you live, this CMP12 controller will do you just fine.It does appear to have the short-circuit and over-voltage functions, plus the load disconnect feature, that other inexpensive controllers would lack.
